Dr. Linda S. Sigmund

Dr. Linda S. Sigmund holds a B.S. Degree from the University of Bridgeport, a post-graduate degree in physical therapy from the University of Pennsylvania, and an M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine. A recipient of the Uniformed Services Health Scholarship, she completed her residency in neurology at Letterman Army Hospital and the University of California, San Francisco. She served in the US Army as a neurologist at Fort Bragg and as Chief of Neurology at Fort Belvoir, where she received the Meritorious Service Medal. Dr. Sigmund directs the Movement Disorder Center of the Neurology Center of Fairfax, where she sees patients with Parkinson's Disease, tremor, movement disorders and restless leg syndrome.

Dr. Sigmund is a nationally recognized Parkinson's Disease specialist and lectures frequently on Parkinson's Disease and its treatment. Her current practice includes more than 2000 patients with Parkinson's Disease and related disorders. She participates in clinical research in the pharmacological treatment of Parkinson's Disease and is experienced in the use of deep brain stimulation in the treatment of Parkinson's Disease. Dr. Sigmund established the first Parkinson's Disease support and exercise program in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area in 1986. She is presently the Medical Director of the Parkinson's Foundation of the National Capital Area.

Dr. Sigmund has been elected by her peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® from 2001 to 2012. She has also been named in the Consumers Checkbook list of Best Doctors from 1999 - 2010, and Washingtonian magazine's list of Best Doctors from 1990 - 2012. Dr. Sigmund was awarded a lifetime achievement award in May 2011 from the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area (PFNCA). In addition, Dr. Sigmund was recognized in the October 2011 Washignton, DC-Baltimore-Northern Virginia Super Doctors ®, a special advertising supplement to the Washington Post, and she has been recognized in Virginia Livng Magazine's "Best Doctors in America" 2011 - 2012; Jan/Feb 2012 issue.
